Fall colours bring a magical glow to Fogo Island. Brilliant sunrises and sunsets fill the sky, berries of all shades blanket the ground and revel in nature’s bounty - locally picked partridgeberries; porcini mushrooms, hops and honeycomb; island-harvested cabbage, carrots, squash, corn and rutabaga; tree fruits cherries, plums and tart apples; hand-lined cod; wild game. From September 1st through October 15th Fogo Island Inn offers seasonal activities from their Fish & Ships trips, Fire Under the Stars and foraging workshops to film screenings, SHED parties and art workshops. From the wild waters of the North Atlantic to ancient, glacier-shaped rocks, Fogo Island’s natural world is incomparable and influenced by its maritime, sub-arctic climate and unique geography where a rugged landscape invites mindful contemplation, exploration and profound beauty.

FOGO ISLAND INN

Fogo Island Inn is a 3 Key Michelin Star property and a member of Relais & Châteaux, but it is more than an Inn; it is a place with purpose. A community-centered social business and an initiative of Shorefast, a Canadian charity that is forging a new path at the intersection of business, philanthropy and community economic development. When you stay at Fogo Island Inn, you contribute to their vision of prosperous economies that serve people, nature and culture in local places. All operating surpluses are reinvested in the community of Fogo Island through Shorefast's programs and initiatives. History, nature, innovation — these were all pillars considered by Newfoundland-born, Norway-based architect Todd Saunders, when he set out to design an Inn that would convey the character of Fogo Island.

GANDER
Crossroads of the World
"To travel to Fogo Island, most guests will fly to Gander (YQX), where you’ll find the closest international airport. This small city, one of Newfoundland’s major centres, harbours a fascinating history worth discovering beyond your stay at Fogo Island Inn. What do Queen Elizabeth II, Fidel Castro, and Marilyn Monroe have in common? They all once touched down at Gander International Airport, where planes needed to stop and re-fuel before continuing across the Atlantic prior to the arrival of the jet age in the 1960s. Now home to a bar and cinema, the former international lounge of the airport is a time capsule, still adorned with the stylish décor of its heyday. Head upstairs to learn all about the airport’s surprising history in an interactive exhibition. On September 11, 2001, the friendly people of Gander opened their hearts and homes to those stranded at the airport due to the terrorist attack. The event inspired Come From Away, a hit musical that took Broadway and the world by storm. From Gander, you’ll follow the road to Farewell along Newfoundland’s windswept northeastern coast through lush landscapes and coastal towns defined by the architecture that inspired the Inn."
